These prestigious awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise and reward the expertise, skills and professionalism of our IMA members.
The event took place at the spectacular Emirates Stadium, home to Arsenal Football Club. Thank you to everyone who attended and a special congratulations to our winners, listed below.
YOUR IMA 2019 AWARD WINNERS:
Third place: G Baker Roofing
Project: Hamstead Valley Sainsbury's
G Baker Roofing Ltd were selected to refurbish circa 3000m² of failed roofing to the Sainsbury’s store roof at Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre. They used a combination of BMI’s Profiles XL bitumen warm roof system for the project and. It was crucial that there was absolutely no disruption to shopping centre usage and site set up needed to be organised requiring timed deliveries. The project team demonstrated expertise in programme management to ensure the solution was successfully delivered.
Second place: Watershed Roofing
Project: Thorpe Park Academy
The refurbishment of Thorpe Park Academy’s flat roofs and windows was secured following the successful awarding of funds via the school’s CIF bid. A new BMI warm roof solution was specified incorporating Thermaweld Firesmart as the preferred waterproofing finish. In addition, all detailing was carried out using BMI’s flame-free detailing system to ensure all risks were reduced to an absolute minimum.
Winner: BBR Roofing
Project: Boots Store, Harrogate
BBR Roofing were instructed to complete the third, and final, phase of this re-roofing project. An overlay of Profiles XL Firesmart system and Profiles Vent XL were installed directly onto the existing asphalt substrate in the main flat area. The waterproofing works involved a lot of detail, which was carried out to an extremely high standard of workmanship by BBR’s specialist bituminous membrane installers.
Project: Hattersley Clinic
Congratulations went to Sanderoof for winning the award for Eco-Active Roofing on Hattersley Clinic. Keeping the health centre live throughout the process required Sanderoof to maintain a watertight building at all times. This is testament to their skill and professionalism in completing a well-executed project, and receiving a well-deserved win.
LIQUID APPLIED WATERPROOFING
Winner: Itech Roofworks
Project: Heathrow Airport T3 Pier 6
Itech Roofworks were awarded the contract to complete the refurbishment of Pier 6 at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 3. The challenge of the project team was to completely remove and replace the existing waterproofing membrane without impacting the day to day activities of the busy terminal. Itech Roofworks completed the waterproofing works to an exceptional standard, and demonstrated that difficult and challenging projects should not compromise the finished quality of the roof membrane.
SINGLE PLY ROOFING
Third place: Mells Roofing
Project: Ford Motor Company
Mells Roofing were required to generate a solution that prohibited the use of flame or flammable materials. The chosen system was BMI’s Universal POCB single ply membrane, installed as part of a warm roof system. Upon completion of the works, coloured walkways were installed using Firesmart Capsheet in brown providing safe access for future maintenance works.
Second place: MAC Roofing
Project: University of Birmingham -STEM Building
STEM Building is a new £40 million project situated in the heart of the University of Birmingham. MAC Roofing worked in close co-operation with BMI to deliver a robust, cost effective solution. They opted to promote BMI’s Universal Single Ply Membrane System for the upper roof area which totalled almost 2,000 square metres. This project was logistically challenging as it is located in the centre of the University complex which was live throughout the construction period.
Winner: Watershed Roofing
Project: Dewsbury Mosque
Watershed Roofing were invited to provide a warm roof solution to 200 square metres of flat roof area that would be cost effective and sympathetic to the building structure and design. BMI’s Monarplan PVC single ply membrane was proposed as part of a new warm roof solution that included a full BMI system build-up. The installation was executed with very high standards of workmanship with all detailing completed to a neat and tidy finish.
Winner: Premier Mastic Asphalt
Project: Lower Creekbank
Lower Creekbank is a new build project in Cornwall and Premier Mastic Asphalt we were tasked with installing new green roofs to two barrel valuted roofs. One of the greatest challenges faced was access.All materials had to be moved by hand down the steep hillside via a complex scaffold system. A high quality result was achieved by using BMI’s single ply waterproofing and green roof system, installed by an experienced team.
PROJECT OF THE YEAR
Itech Roofworks for Heathrow Airport Terminal 3
The IMA 2019 Project of the Year winner was selected from all the category winners. Each of the projects have demonstrated what the IMA stands for – a combination of high standards of workmanship with the correct and appropriate choice of quality materials. Congratulations!
CRAFTSMAN OF THE YEAR
This year’s Craftsman of the Year recipient was awarded to an individual who has demonstrated high standards of workmanship over a sustained period of time. Often working in some of the harshest and difficult environments, this year’s recipient continues to deliver projects of exceptional quality which exemplifies the values of the IMA that we all strive to achieve.
